It is a tough one, you are by yourself: Tim David opens up on making a name for himself in T20 leagues

Singapore-born Australian cricketer Tim David opened up on making a name for himself in domestic T20 leagues around the world, saying it is tough as "you are by yourself".

David, who was dropped by Western Australia a few years ago, carved out a career as a T20 specialist in leagues like the Indian Premier League, Australia's Big Bash League and Pakistan Super League.

"It's a tough one because you're by yourself and there's not a lot of support a lot of the time," David was quoted as saying. "Of course, there are amazing opportunities and you get to experience different things. I'd encourage anyone to go out and play whatever cricket they can, whether they go to play in different countries or play locally."

The 26-year-old is enjoying his time being part of the Australian setup, having made his debut for Australia in the T20I series against India recently. David registered his first half-century for Australia during the 6-wicket defeat at the hands of India in Hyderabad.

David is the only player in Australia's 15-man T20 World Cup squad that won the ICC event in 2021 in the United Arab Emirates. Australia players like Mitchell Starc, who missed the tour of India, had said that he was looking forward to meet David when he returned from the subcontinent.

David will now get more chances to know his Australia teammates as the side gears up for home warm-up series against England and West Indies ahead of the T20 World Cup, starting October 16.

"It's pretty natural," David said on stepping up to the highest level. "It's not like I've been doing anything away from what I've been preparing for."

Australia will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 22.
